About Rose Debate Institute
We exist to empower our culture to think critically and speak with confidence, eloquence and civility, in the pursuit of truth.
The Rose Debate Institute provides after school programs and private courses teaching public speaking and debate to students of all ages. Originating in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have expanded to schools in Boston and nationwide with online programs.
We have doubled our efforts to make quality instruction available to students in both an in-person and online format. For the past three years, we have been providing online classes via Zoom with great success. We maintain our first-rate quality by keeping a small student to teacher ratio, short but frequent class times, and by training our affable instructors to connect with students through the camera with engaging and thoroughly prepared lesson plans.
All of our courses focus on these three things:
Confidence
Public speaking is one of the most prevalent fears in the United States. Our courses inspire students with the confidence they need to overcome this fear and prepare for success.
Communication
All of life’s endeavors rely on effective communication. We create an environment where students can grow as communicators with their peers.
Leadership
We train our students to make strong impressions, to hold meaningful conversation, and to speak persuasively — indispensable skills to the modern leader.
What Makes Us Unique?
1. Experience. Our staff are highly qualified in the realm of communications, speech, debate, and public speaking.
2. Youth. Our students really look up to their Rose Institute Instructors. Many of our staff are currently pursuing degrees in the sphere of business and communications. This enables us to connect with our young audiences not just as teachers, but mentors as well.
3. Training. All Rose Institute teachers have studied under founder, CEO, and master speaker Paul Rose. They have all been trained specifically to teach Rose Institute’s tailored lessons to great effect.

Think. Speak. Win.
Intro to Public Speaking
Effective communication is a vital tool in almost every area of life, from learning in school, to creating friendships, to building a career. Public speaking remains the number one fear in the United States. At Rose Debate Institute, we believe that practicing effective communication deserves as much investment as any activity.
Competitive Speech
For students who are interested in competing in speech and debate, we host our competitive speech clubs. We train our students in a variety of competitive speech events and provide a platform and constructive feedback to hone their skills in unique ways and receive recognition for their accomplishments.
Business Leadership
More than ten years ago, two high school debate champions started a single summer debate program in their living room, hoping to share their skills with other students. Today, Rose Debate works with thousands of students and dozens of partners.
Debate
Today, critical thinking and effective debating skills are more essential than ever before. At Rose Debate, we have developed techniques and content to foster these skills in our students, sharpening their minds and bolstering their confidence in communication.
Private Clubs
As more and more parents explore alternative schooling to better address the needs of their children, Rose Debate partners directly with families to provide personalized speech and debate programming.

FAQs
My child has already taken that class and really liked it, should I sign them up again? Will they learn any new things?
Yes! Students will be separated into groups according to grade and skill level. Students will be stretched and challenged according to experience. In addition, every term incorporates new and unique material. Because we believe that mastering communication skills, like sports, require lots of practice, our courses are exercise focused. An athlete doesn’t master basketball in one season and then moves onto soccer because she has “taken that sport before.” In Rose Institute programs, your student will grow as communicators, every time.
Do you do private tutoring?
We believe that communication skills are best practiced in groups. If you want private coaching, we recommend arranging a small group program. We have several of these personalized groups ongoing with great success! Email programs@rosedebate.com for more information.
We want to sign up for a class, but I have a scheduling conflict, what are my options?
If you are only going to miss one (maybe two) sessions, sign up anyway, and talk to us beforehand about getting a class recording or the lesson material to keep up.
How many students are in each class?
At Rose Institute we believe in personalized coaching and feedback. Across our programs, we average a 9:1 student to teacher ratio.
Can I sign up for more than one program?
Yes! But only if you want to have a lot of fun! 🙂
What online and in-person options do you have?
All our programs can be viewed in the “Classes” tab. In the “Classes” tab, you can view all our open programs, both in-person and online, under “Open Programs.” If you’d like to see if we have an in-person program at your school, check out the “Affiliated Programs” page under the “Classes” tab!
How are the students grouped in your classes?
Student groups are decided primarily by age. For example, in a given class there may be a 4-5 grade and a 6-8 grade group. Exceptions will be made depending on experience and skill.
